Media in the Mix: The use and impact of the media 1980’s to the present in a dual heritage household.
“ I don’t see myself as mixed race I see myself as being me”
NSCA June 3rd 2010
Aims, Objectives and Rationale
The aim of the research is to look at the use and impact of the media in dual heritage households from the 1980’s onwards especially with consideration to the concepts of interpellation, stereotype and representation. The rationale for doing this work is to try and establish whether media designed to provide a positive representation of black masculinity had any impact on my son’s identity, to establish if his experience is paralleled in other similar families and to explore the implications for other media users and to try and reflect on this creatively.
